Pipes, Coffee and Ghosts

A recent comment to my post "I Smell a Spirit", caught my attention. As my comment button malfunctioned on that particular post, I have decided to use it this week as a preface to a post later this week.

A man living in the United Kingdom noted that his home occasionally has two smells that leave his family wondering if it has paranormal activity.

The first smell is pipe smoke. It lingers by the lavatory door and into the hall. It is not continuous, and may last a couple days. It returns every few weeks, sometimes not for months.

The man feels this smell of pipe smoke is paranormal because nobody in the house smokes, and smoking is not permitted in the home. He also adds that his dog "Scooby", has been seen staring at the lavatory door when the smell is present.

The second smell the couple has experienced in their house is that of coffee. The strong smell of coffee is found by the stairway and the bedroom door in the evening hours. They are perplexed because they do not drink coffee and rarely keep coffee in their home.

I am still curious as to why the smell of tobacco is so common in places where it is unexpected. If anyone has a theory as to why this phenomenon occurs, please contact me at: gotparanormal@gmail.com, or as always, I look forward to your comments!

Hungry Ghost

It seems that my "paranormal ring" I discussed in my first post of 4/4/2010, may have a name!
Hungry ghost seems fitting. Asian folklore suggests beings are reborn as hungry ghosts because of their greed, envy and jealousy. They eat the emotions of living humans or whose actions are driven by emotions leftover from its previous life. This is so fascinating since it was hovering over my knee in an Asian restaurant! I also find it mind-blowing that I experienced this phenomenon in the summer, the time when hungry ghost festivals are being celebrated in Asia.

At the time, I was proud of myself for not touching the mysterious ring. I was feeling insecure about interrupting the flow of something so magical. The brave, curious side of me, wishes I touched it! I wonder what my intuition would say if the hungry ghost decided to visit me again this summer. Maybe I would feel confident touching it if given another chance, as I am not so ignorant to its existence.

I am looking forward to sharing more information in the near future!

I Smell a Spirit

Funny you mention cigar.....I do not believe in "coincidence" so the timing of the universe continues to amaze me. I was just at our local high school play with two of my four children, the night before you posted your comment. As we were sitting in the dark, I could smell cigar smoke.

I prefer trying to debunk every paranormal activity that presents itself to me....so I brushed it off as perhaps a member of the audience smoked a cigar prior to the play. However, I have two examples of "smelling a spirit" phenomenon that I would like to share with you!

Several years ago, I was chatting with an acquaintance of mine about the death of her mother. I felt an impulsive need to ask her an odd question. I asked her if she had smelled her mother since she passed. She looked at me and said she smelled her mother's lipstick at the funeral. Keep in mind at this time in my life, I was unaware that it was possible to smell a spirit.

Another similar story is when I first met a good friend of mine. We were having drinks and she was talking about the death of her mother. Once again, I followed my intuition and asked if she had ever smelled her mother. She looked at me as if I was The Great Gazoo from an old Flintstones episode. Anyway, she said no, and the night continued as she washed my question away with a martini.

The next morning her husband called her from his trip. She had not talked to him after she left me that night, as he was away. He told her that her mother came to him in his dream and that he could smell her.

To make the story odder, he never recalled her mother having a particular scent.

Welcome to my paranormal blog!

My goal here is to deliver new insight to my readers about a topic that may be real....or may not be real. It's up to you to decide.

On a personal note, I have had a few paranormal experiences in my lifetime. It makes me quite uncomfortable to think there just might be "something" after we die. After all, I treasure THIS life I have created for myself.

For years, I thought death was when you wake up and you don't remember your dreams. Just "nothing". Other possibilities are heaven, reincarnation, or just energy we cannot explain at the present time. When thinking about "paranormal", it is important to remember that it ranges from: ghosts, past lives, UFOs to actual psychics and more.

I hope you will enjoy my journey into the unknown mysteries of life the way I do: with an open mind and courage.

My first blog will start with one of my own paranormal experiences in Chestnut Hill, PA.

I was finished my dinner, it was closing time and my dear friend and I were about to leave one of my favorite local haunts. At this point, we were the only patrons left in the restaurant.

Q: What exactly did you see?

A: A glowing, fluorescent yellow, vibrating ring, about the size and shape of your pointer finger and thumb if you touched the tips together. It appeared at the center of the table out of nowhere, darted in different directions and then toward me. My chair was far enough away from the table that it could hover over my knee.

Q: What was your reaction?

A: I was dumbfounded. I tried to debunk all of it. My intuition told me not to touch it, or say a word. I wanted this moment to last forever.

Q: How did it end?

A: The bus boy approached our table clanking dishes, etc. He was taking plates away and the fluorescent ring darted from my knee, back to the table and dropped through the space between the table and the wall. Poof...gone!

Q: Did it come back?

A: It did. The bus boy informed us the restaurant was now closed. My friend brushed the soil in the plant's pot next to our table (still curious as to where the thing was). There it was, for a split second . It darted up through the plant's broad leaf and vanished into thin air.

Q: How did you feel?

A: I felt lucky, important, wondering why this happened to me. I continue to ask myself "What did this mean?" Whatever it was, it has taken my desire to share the wonderment of paranormal to the next level.

Q: Have you returned to the restaurant?

A: Yes! I have returned several times. I have also been seated at the same table on some occasions. I have not seen the paranormal ring since that memorable night. I asked the waiter if he had experienced anything paranormal at the restaurant. He said no, but added some of the staff claimed that they have encountered paranormal activity. None of the claims were of my special ring.

I am ready and waiting to talk "paranormal rings" to anyone who has seen such a thing!
